In recent years a considerable amount of funding has been made available for tree planting, resulting in tens of thousands of trees being planted by volunteers working with ParkLife. Tree planting is a popular because it is an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and with differing abilities. Planters can feel like they are making a real difference, at a time of climate and biodiversity emergency.
Since 2021, ParkLife has been working in partnership with Devon County Council, helping communities plant trees across the county. This has included parks and public spaces in Ivybridge, Dartmouth, Exmouth, Totnes and Wembury, and land in the wider countryside being managed for conservation right across Devon.
Over the last three years ParkLife has also coordinated community tree planting for the Woodland Trust at Yonder Oak Wood, near Woodbury, and for the National Trust at Wembury Barton. This has enabled primary and secondary school groups, college and university students and adult learners, environment groups, community organisations and local business workforces to be involved first hand in important new woodland creation schemes.
