Restoring a vital habitat and raising awareness about the importance of saltmarshes
The Saltmarsh Project is an exciting initiative launched by a range of partners, including the Bioregional Learning Centre, the Duchy of Cornwall, Dart Harbour & Navigation Authority and the Environment Agency. The project has brought together various local organisations, artists and dozens of dedicated volunteers to bring awareness about the importance of this habitat and help on its restoration.
ParkLife has played a key role in the initiative by coordinating local volunteers and leading the restoration work. With the invaluable support of volunteers, we crafted brushwood bundles using coppiced willow and hazel sourced directly from the site. These bundles were strategically placed to reinforce eroding banks, block gullies, and slow water flow. Over time, they will trap sediment and naturally rebuild the marsh, creating the right conditions for vital plant and invertebrate species to return.
